Sol-U-Guard Botanical
Sol-U-Guard Botanical(Please read our disclaimer)Reading this news article helps open our eyes to those places where invisible germs may be lurking and multiplying. Mostof us are shocked to learn that our computer keyboard, kitchen sink, phone handset, remotecontrol, and refrigerator handle might harbor more germs per square inch than a toilet seat!Bleach, with its caustic, poisonous nature and toxic fumes, will disinfect; but it is hazardous topeople and pets. The book Melaleuca: A Legacy of Wellness explains that quats, or quaternary ammoniumcompounds, the most commonly used active ingredients in home-use disinfectants, are poisonousif ingested, and are eye irritants and require labels cautioning against inhalation. And, while theykill bacteria, they are not as effective on viruses. An independent study proved patented Sol-U-Guard Botanical to be 99.9% effective against cold and flu viruses, including MRSA, E.coli, strep, salmonella, and more. Made entirely of food-grade ingredients, Sol-U-Guard Botanical is safe to use around pets and children and can be used on food surfaces. The Melaleuca Wellness Guide recommends the use of Sol-U-Guard Botanical on hard, non-porous surfaces including: faucets, sinks, door knobs, countertops, high chairs, changing tables, toys, and any hard surface where big or little fingers repeatedly touch. Two natural ingredients are part of the secret to this gentle-powerful disinfectant. In nature plants often produce antioxidants and other natural chemicals as insect repellents and healing compounds that fight off plant diseases and viruses. The garden herb, thyme, creates a powerful oil that contains the component thymol. Thymol is a well known anti microbial that Melaleuca combined with food-grade citric acid to make a disinfectant formula that works on viruses and bacteria. Both active ingredients are necessary because some germs are more vulnerable to thyme oil, and others are more vulnerable to citric acid. The result is new mild herbal-scented, EPA approved Sol-U-Guard Botanical 2x. Please read this RM Barry Research Report for more details on the herbal ingredients that make this formula so unique. And remember, even though news reports tell that this has been a mild flu season, we still have several months left of "flu season."~ Richard M Barry Sol-U-Guard Success StoriesThe people below will receive a free Melaleuca Wellness Guide for submitting their stories.I have been using Melaleuca's Sol-U-Guard since becoming a customer 3 years ago. I knew itwas great at disinfecting but hadn't SEEN the results until my girlfriend told me to use it for moldin the shower (which I am constantly battling since we don't have a fan in any of the bathrooms). I had been using Melaleuca's products except for the "mold and mildew spray" in the shower. Igave the Sol-U-Guard a try. I mist the shower and the shower curtain liner every couple of daysand I have not had a spot of mold or mildew in any of our showers since.~ Pamela Last year my older son got the flu. He spent most of his sick time on the family room sofa so he could watch movies or TV when he wasn't sleeping. The doctor's office thought it might be the H1N1 based on his symptoms (insurance would not pay for testing to confirm that). I was worried that the rest of us would come down with the flu since he was out around all of us. I used the Sol-U-Guard EVERYWHERE (bathrooms/kitchen/furniture/the air!). I am happy to say that no one else in the house came down with the flu. Thank you Melaleuca! ~ Debi The flu, strep and the stomach bug had been running wild all over my daughter's school a few months ago. I kept up by spraying everything and anything with Sol-U-Guard. I am proud to say that not even once, not even a little symptom reared its head in our household! My daughter and I did not fall victim. ~ Melissa Sol-U-Guard Botanical has a regular place in my art box because children seem to continually have runny noses and coughs during the after-school Young Rembrandts classes I teach. I spray the desk and table area with Sol-U-Guard after each class to keep the germs from spreading to other children's classes. As an added bonus, I've found that when I spray Sol-U-Guard around the baseboards and on the door sills of the house, scorpions and other unwanted bugs either don't come in, or when I do find one, they are usually dead. Thankfully the Sol-U-Guard has a nice clean smell. I don't mind using it regularly since it doesn't aggravate my asthma. Each of my customers gets The Melaleuca Wellness Guide because the first chapter tells the story of how Melaleuca Oil came to be and the success stories that have evolved from its beginning. ~ Darwin We are taking care of my disabled mother. With Parkinson's she doesn't always have bladder control. I will take her to the bathroom and get her ready to sit on the throne when she loses control and I have a mess to clean up. I know when I spray Sol-U-Guard Botanical disinfectant on all the surfaces and wipe things up, it is clean and sanitized. The other use I have is for the massage table I use. After each individual client as well as before each individual client I spray Sol-U-Guard Botanical disinfectant. I know the table is clean in between clients and each client is laying on a clean surface. Thank you Melaleuca for making a botanical disinfectant that I know won't harm me or my clients. ~ Eileen A few years ago, my husband John caught H1N1. He was so ill, his skin was gray, and he was so "out of it" I was scared. I also thought what if we both get it, how can I take care of the both of us? He was sleeping most of the time, and I would go near just to make sure he was breathing! I told him to not come into the kitchen, not to touch anything and if he did touch something he was to tell me what he touched and I'd immediately go and clean it with Sol-U-Guard Botanical. Door knobs, toilet, sink taps, fridge handle, and cupboard doors. That product was my constant companion. Neither of us had had a flu shot that year. It was scary. The good news is he got better and I never got sick. Thank you Melaleuca, big time!!! ~ Liz As a pre-k teacher I wipe the tables in my classroom daily with Sol-U-Guard Botanical. I am confident that almost 100% of the germs are eliminated, and I feel that I have done my part in providing a germ-free, caustic-free environment for my students. Not only does the Sol-U-Guard Botanical disinfect the tables, the room smells fresh and clean. Thanks, Melaleuca, for a wonderful product! While visiting here, my 90-yr-old mom consulted The Melaleuca Wellness Guide to find a solution for her cracked feet. She found that the Guide was very informative. The way the Guide was set up, she was able to find the information she needed easily and quickly. Thanks again. ~Annie Jo

Did you know... The United States of America Federal Code of Regulations exemptsmanufacturers from full labeling of products if used for personal, family orhousehold care. [USA FCR: Section 1910.1200C, Title 29, Section 1500.822Q1A] Environmental Protection Agency studies have shownthat indoor air pollution can be 3 to 70 times higher than outdoors. Almost 50% of all illness is due to poor indoor air quality [1989State of Massachusetts Study] According to the National Safety Council, more childrenunder the age of 4 die of accidental household poisonings than are accidentallykilled by guns at home The EPA conducted a study that found that toxic chemicals inhousehold cleaners are three times more likely to cause cancer than outdoor airpollution. Of 2,983 chemicals analyzed that are found in personal care products: 884 are toxic 146 can cause tumors 218 can causereproductive complications 778 cause acutetoxicity 314 can causebiological mutations 376 can cause skinand eye irritations [Source: United States House of Representatives Reportthrough NIOSH, 1989] Ingestion only accounts for about 10% of household poisonings.90% of poisoning happens through inhalation and skin absorption. Women who work in the home have a 54% higher risk of dying fromcancer than women who work outside of the home because of their increasedexposure to household chemicals. [Toronto Indoor Air Conference of 1990 froma 15+ year study] 150 chemicals found in the home have been connected to allergies, birth defects, cancer and psychological disorders. [The Consumer ProtectionAgency) In an EPA report to the US Congress regarding the Indoor AirQuality Act of 1989, they stated that indoor air quality is one of the nation'smost important environmental health problems. "Chemicals have replaced bacteria and viruses as the mainthreat to health. The diseases we are beginning to see as the major causes ofdeath in the latter part of (the 1900's) and into the 21st century are diseasesof chemical origin." [Dr. Dick Irwin, Toxicologist, Texas A&MUniversity] Diseases that used to occur later in life are now appearing atyounger ages. Diseases that used to be rare are more frequent. For example: There has been a 28%increase in childhood cancer since the addition of pesticides into householdproducts. Cancer is now the #2killer of children - second only to accidental poisonings. Since 1977 the rateof cancer among American children has been steadily rising at a rate of nearly1% each year. [National Cancer Institute]
Some products release contaminants into the air right away, others do so gradually over a period of time. Some stay in the air up to ayear. These contaminants, found in many household and personal care productscan cause dizziness, nausea, allergic reactions, eye/skin/respiratory tractirritations and some cause cancer. [American Lung Association] In 1901, cancer was rare: 1 out of 8,000. Since the IndustrialRevolution, the cancer rate today has risen to 1 in 3 and is not improving. [TheAmerican Cancer Society] In one decade, there has been a 42% increase in asthma (29% formen, 82% for women). The higher rate for women is believed to be due to women'slonger exposure times to household chemicals. [Center for Disease Control] Just by reducing (not eliminating) environmental carcinogensalone, we could save at least 50,000 lives taken by cancer annually. [Dr.Lee Davis, former advisor to the Secretary of Health] Even small doses of neurotoxins, which would be harmless to anadult, can alter a child's nervous system development. [Environmental HealthPerspectives 106 Supplement 3:787-794 (June 1998)] Out of 2,435 pesticide poisonings in a one-year period, over 40%were due to exposure to disinfectants and similar cleaning products in thehome. [State of California Study] Developing cells in children's bodies are more susceptible todamage than adult cells that have completed development, especially for thecentral nervous system. During the development of a child, from conceptionthrough adolescence, there are particular windows of vulnerability toenvironmental hazards. Most disturbing - until a child is approximately 13months of age, they are virtually no ability to fight the biological andneurological effects of toxic chemicals. [Herbert L. Needleman, M.D., PhilipJ. Landrigan, M.D., Raising Children Toxic Free] Today, children have chemical exposures from birth that theirparents didn't have until they were adults. Because children are exposed totoxics at an earlier age than adults, they have more time to developenvironmentally triggered diseases, with long latency periods, such as cancer. [EnvironmentalPolicy and Children's Health, Future of Children, Summer/Fall 1995; 5(2):34-52] Household bleaches which claim to disinfect are classified aspesticides under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act. Inadvertently mixingbleach with other cleaners that contain ammonia produces a toxic chloraminesgas. These toxic gases can cause coughing, loss of voice, a feeling of burningor suffocation, and even death. [Source: Guide to Hazardous Products Aroundthe Home, Household Hazardous Waste Project, 1989] There is an increased risk for leukemia in children whereparents have used pesticides in the home or garden before the child's birth. [Journalof the National Cancer Institute] Formaldehyde is a highly toxic substance and one of the mostcommon indoor air pollutants. It is a highly suspected cancer-causing agent. Itis an irritant to the eyes, nose, throat and lungs and may cause a wide varietyof reactions, including skin reactions, ear infections, headaches, depression, joint pain, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, sleep disturbances, and manymore. How many of these names would you have recognized as formaldehyde?Manufactures can legally use over 30 different trade names for this chemical.Below are some: (http://www.fda.gov/ohrms/dockets/dailys/02/Aug02/080602/98f-0052-sup0014-vol5.txtand http://www.epa.gov/iaq/formalde.html for more info onformaldehyde) Formalin Quaternium-15(formaldehyde releasing agent) Methanal Methyl Aldehyde Methylene Oxide Oxymethylene Bfv* Fannoform* Formol* Fyde* Karsan* Methaldehyde Formalith* Methylene Glycol Ivalon* Oxomethane Formalin 40 Formic Aldehyde Hoch Paraform Lysoform* Morbocid Trioxane Polyoxmethylene denotes trade name More Online Research Resources for you and your customers: PLEASE NOTE: Below are more online resources for youreducational purposes.
